We have extensive experience with testing treadmills, so when we look at a list of specifications we can already get an idea of how a treadmill will work. Plus, if it’s from a brand we’ve tested, we’ll know how it most likely works based on our previous experience with the other models.

We have tested a wide range of treadmills and other equipment from NordicTrack, so in this spec review we’ll rely on that knowledge to inform you about the NordicTrack EXP 14i.

In-depth Review of NordicTrack EXP 14i Treadmill

iFit App Subscription

Our team loves using iFit. They have literally thousands of classes led by world class instructors and the library is being added to daily. I’m constantly impressed with their outdoor classes. They film in locations all over the world. The trainer guides you through scenic locations and the camera pans to show the surrounding landscape.

Their indoor classes are filmed in professional studios and are of high quality too. I do wish that their music was incorporated into the classes rather than a background component, but with the wide range of stations they offer you’re sure to find music you like.

On top of getting guidance and exploring areas around the globe with top notch trainers, iFit also has some tech features that we appreciate. Their AutoAdjust technology lets you follow along with the instructor throughout the class. So, when they give cue to incline or are moving over a landscape that’s uphill, the treadmill will adjust to that grade. This makes it so you don’t have to worry about changing the levels yourself, you can simply focus on your workout.

You can of course bypass this and manually adjust the treadmill whenever you need to, too. With our experience using this feature, we know that this will make the EXP 14i treadmill very interactive just like the other iFit machines.

We are a little disappointed that the SmartBeat Forearm heart rate monitor is sold separately. The ActivePulse heart rate training feature is designed to keep your heart rate at a certain level by adjusting the treadmill to match that intensity. Heart rate training is an effective tool to help avoid overtraining and add variety to your workouts. We wish that the monitor was included with the NordicTrack EXP 14i Treadmill.

In addition to classes on the treadmill, you can take cycling, rowing, strength, yoga, meditation, and more with iFit.

NordicTrack EXP 14i Console

The console on the EXP 14i features a 14” touchscreen. In our testing of the EXP 7i from NordicTrack, we found that the 7” screen is a little small and harder to see. With the 14” being double the size, it should be easier to see the iFit content. It’s also centered on the console, which is nice.

Although it might be too small for some users who are accustomed to very large screens, like on the x32i and x22i incline trainers from NordicTrack. For most users, it should be sufficient though.

The fans on other treadmills from NordicTrack usually have decent airflow. Considering the one on the EXP 14i is in the same spot as the EXP 7i, we anticipate that it should work well. We expect the same to be true with the two speakers.

We like that NordicTrack includes the OneTouch controls on their consoles. On the EXP 14i, they have every level for speed and inclining/declining. These are really convenient for HIIT training and even just quickly changing your speed and grade levels. I like jumping around with my speed and inclines, so I use these buttons pretty frequently on other models.

Overall, the console is very similar to NordicTrack’s other models, so predict that all of the controls will be easy to reach.

There are two cup holders that typically fit my 22oz water bottle easily on the other treadmills from this brand. The pockets are normally large enough to hold other items like phones, wallets, and keys. I’m sure these will as well. Plus, the storage tray under the console should be enough for items you might need nearby.

Just below the touch screen you should be able to place your device on the ridge there, too.

Construction Quality/Durability

As with other EXP models we’ve tested, we expect that the 14i will feel similar to use and have solid construction. NordicTrack’s folding treadmills are typically easy to fold, unfold, and move around. So the EXP 14i should be like this as well.

The 300 lb weight capacity is large, but it might not be sufficient for runners close to this limit. As such, these users might want to look for a treadmill with a higher limit to ensure the machine functions properly and lasts.

We like that NordicTrack uses steel frames and uprights on their treadmills. The steel uprights and crossbar fixed under the storage rack below the console should keep the EXP 14i nice and steady while running.

Also, considering the design is the same as the other EXP treadmills, the handles should work well and we’ve found them to be conveniently placed during our use.

The 3.5 CHP motor is an ample size to support all kinds of activity like walking, jogging, running, and sprinting. It should also handle regular use, well.

The EXP 14i goes up to 12 mph, which is plenty of speed for most users. It also inclines up to 12% and declines to -3%. Most folding treadmills only offer an incline feature, so we appreciate the decline features that NordicTrack has on a lot of their treadmills.

With this hearty motor size and training features, we expect you’ll get all kinds of use out of the EXP 14i.

Treadmill Deck

The deck on this model is 20” x 60”. In our testing, we’ve determined that 60” is sufficient for most users to run comfortably on. Some users might find the 20” wide running surface to be a little narrow however. If you like a wider surface to run on, we suggest looking into models with 22” wide decks.

Usually the cushioning on some treadmills from NordicTrack are pretty soft. The incline trainers are some of the softest we’ve used. The FlexSelect cushioning on the EXP 7i isn’t as soft as these or the Commercial Series, but it should offer plenty of absorption to help protect your joints.

Warranty & Customer Service

NordicTrack offers a 10-year warranty for the frame, 2-year warranty for parts, and 1-year warranty for labor. The larger warranty on the frame typically speaks to the excellent build quality and durability of their treadmills.

Bottom Line Review: NordicTrack EXP 14i Treadmill:

The NordicTrack EXP 14i has thoughtful features and is iFit enabled so you’ll never get bored with your workouts. With the treadmills we’ve tested from Nordictrack, we’re impressed by their hearty motors, streamlined consoles, and excellent construction. We anticipate that the NordicTrack EXP 14i will be no different and that you should get a wide variety of use out of this treadmill.

The 14” touch screen is the largest in the EXP lineup, and should be plenty sufficient for most users to enjoy iFit on. We highly recommend subscribing to iFit to get full functionality of the EXP 14i. On top of the thousands of guided workouts, impressive quality, and wide range of class types, the treadmill will adjust automatically for you as you take a class.

The NordicTrack EXP 14i should perform well for most users who want to walk, jog, run, and sprint. Plus, it folds up and can be moved around. If you’re looking for a treadmill that checks these boxes then we suggest looking into the EXP 14i treadmill from NordicTrack.
