In-depth Review of Hypervolt Go 2 Massage Gun

Construction

Hyperice touts that the Hypervolt Go 2 is their most portable massage gun. It is pretty compact and lightweight, and it only weighs about 1.5 lbs.

The Hypervolt Go 2 is light in your hands and easy to use, even on harder-to-reach areas of your body.

The Hyperice Hypervolt Go 2 is the most affordable massage gun from the brand. It is available at a decent price, especially considering how high-quality it is. Massage guns tend to vary pretty greatly in price and some go for hundreds of dollars. The Hypervolt Go 2 is priced around the lower to the middle of the pack.

Motor

The motor is powerful and quiet. It is a brushless high-torque 40W motor. It feels comparable to other massage guns in its price range like the Ekrin Bantam, Theragun Mini, and Bob And Brad C2. It is quieter than the Theragun Mini. This massage gun is so quiet that we hardly notice it being used in our office. With its noise output, I recommend it for use in most spaces.

I also just recommend the Hypervolt Go 2 for personal use. It isn’t meant for commercial use like the Theragun Pro. And with its motor, I wouldn’t expect it to handle all-day use like that.

The motor does perform well and should work great for one person and even an entire household.

Unfortunately, Hyperice doesn’t list some specs such as the stall force. The stall force is the amount of pressure that can be placed on the massage gun when you’re using it before the motor will stall. We don’t recommend actively trying to stall out the motor because it could damage it over time. I did stall it on purpose for the sake of this review to get an idea of how strong the stall force is. I was able to stall it on my quad and on the palm of my hand. Other reviewers have estimated the stall force to be around 10-35 lbs. I would say it’s around maybe somewhere between 15-25 lbs. It was a little easier to stall than the C2 which has a 35 lb stall force. It still requires a decent amount of force to stall the motor and for typical massage gun use the motor works just fine and is plenty powerful and effective at relieving tension in the muscle.

The highest stall forces we’ve seen are around 60-85 lbs which is a bit of an overkill, especially for a smaller, portable massage gun like the Hypervolt Go 2. So, know that this isn’t the most powerful massage gun.

Amplitude

Another spec that isn’t listed is the amplitude. The amplitude is the distance that the attachment on the massage gun moves in and out to deliver the percussive therapy. 16mm is currently the highest amplitude found on massage guns, this is what the Theragun Pro and the Bob and Brad D6 Pro have. Lower-end, cheaper massage guns have around 7-8mm amplitudes like some of Bob and Brad’s smaller massage guns.

The Hypervolt Go 2’s amplitude has been estimated by other reviewers to be around 10mm.

I think this seems accurate. It feels around 10-12mm. It feels a little more “punchy” than the Bob and Brad C2 which has an 8 mm amplitude. The Go 2 feels more similar to the Theragun Mini which has a 12mm amplitude.

Handle

The handle has a soft, velvet-like texture that makes the massage gun feel really high-end. It also gives you a good grip so you don’t have to worry about it slipping out of your hands. This design is pretty standard for most massage guns. For a compact massage gun, the handle is a little thick. I can’t quite wrap my hands around it like I can the Ekrin Bantam or C2.

The handle is rounded though, which I like.

I think for a small massage gun, I do prefer the patented triangular handle on the Theragun Mini, but for a standard handle and design, the Go 2 works just fine. I can grip the handle in a few different ways to better reach certain areas of my body like my mid and upper back.

I did notice that I can feel the vibrations in the handle a little more than the C2 and Ekrin Bantam’s handles. It isn’t an uncomfortable or annoying feeling, however.

Percussion Settings

The Hyperice Hypervolt Go 2 has 3 percussive setting speeds. You can see which setting you’re on with the three tiny dotted lights near the power button on the back.

These three dots light up depending on which setting you’re at.

Hyperice doesn’t disclose the percussive speeds, but other reviewers have estimated that they range from around 2200 to 3200 percussions per minute. The percussions don’t seem as slow as the Theragun Pro and Theragun Mini, but they don’t seem as fast as some of Bob and Brad’s massage guns. The percussions are quick and effective at providing percussive therapy.

The lowest setting is the most gentle, while the fastest setting provides a more intense massage.

Attachments

The Hypervolt Go 2 only comes with 2 attachments.

It comes with a bullet head and a flat head. Hypervolt has more attachments available that are compatible with the Go 2, but they have to be purchased separately.

Flat Head

I don’t mind the 2 included attachments, but I would personally prefer a rounded attachment over the flat head or ideally in addition to the flat head. The flat head is firm with no padding so it can feel a little more harsh on sensitive areas.

Bullet Head

The bullet head attachment is also firm with no padding and is best for targeting smaller, specific areas. A rounded attachment with some padding would be nice for large muscle groups and larger areas on the body.

Functionality & Performance

The Hyperice Hypervolt Go 2 performed really well for our team. We love how quiet it is to use. Even though the stall force seems to be a little weak, it didn’t affect how effective the Go 2 is to use. This is a great massage gun to consider if you’re looking for something small and quiet for yourself and/or your household. I just wish it came with a few more attachments.

I was surprised at how strong the percussions feel in the highest setting. When I use the flat head attachment it feels a little too much when my muscles are sore. I’m not very sensitive to percussive therapy, especially after spending a lot of time using the Theragun Pro, so I was surprised by how strong the Go 2 feels at times. For a small massage gun, it can really get the job done. Although the lowest setting is still nice for beginners and those more sensitive to percussive therapy. There is a good amount of range to choose from with the percussion speeds.

The Hypervolt Go 2 comes with a charger that has multiple adapters depending on the type of electrical outlet you’re using. So, if you’re in different countries or travel often, the charger has 4 different plug types so you can charge the Go 2 wherever.

Charging the Go 2 is easy, you just plug it in. The LED light that wraps around the bottom of the handle helps to indicate the life of the battery.

When the light is green it is charged and when it is red is when the battery is low.

The light turns on when it’s charging so you know when it’s completely charged. The battery life is said to last up to 3 hours. This is with continual use. If you use it for around 10-15 minutes per day the battery can last a few weeks or so.

For traveling and using the Go 2 on the go, I wish it came with a carrying case.

The box that it comes with is good for storing, but it isn’t very practical when taking the Go 2 to places like the gym. For one thing, it doesn’t have a handle and it isn’t designed for transporting. The Theragun Mini comes with a soft zipper case, while Bob and Brad massage guns and those from Ekrin Athletics come with hardshell zipper cases that have handles. Something like either of these would be helpful for the Hypervolt Go 2 to make it even more portable and travel-friendly.

Warranty

The Hyperice Hypervolt Go 2 comes with a 1-year warranty for any defects in the materials or construction. This is similar to other massage guns in its class.
