In-depth Review of Ekrin B37 Massage Gun

Construction

Overall, we’re really impressed with the construction of the Ekrin B37 Massage Gun. It has a pretty standard size, meaning this isn’t a very small massage gun, but it only weighs 2.2 lbs. It doesn’t necessarily fit in your hand like compact massage guns, but it isn’t heavy by any means.

In fact, its lightweight design pairs well with the construction that is powerful and quiet.

Motor

Starting with the motor, the B37 has a level 3 brushless motor. Most massage guns have brushless motors, however, some are louder than others. The Theragun Pro and Mini are louder massage guns, while most models from Bob And Brad are quiet. Most of Bob And Brad’s massage guns aren’t as powerful, however, as the Ekrin B37.

The B37 is powerful AND quiet.

We’ve been using it in our office for the past few months and we love how quiet it is to use. While it isn’t quite as powerful as the Theragun Pro, which is typically considered the “Gold Standard” of massage guns, it has a heavy-duty stall force. The stall force is said to be 56 lbs versus the Theragun Pro’s 60 lb stall force.

The stall force is the amount of pressure or weight that can be applied when using the massage gun before the motor stalls out. 56 lbs is an incredible amount of weight and I assure you that you won’t (and shouldn’t) put that amount of pressure behind a massage gun on your body or anyone else’s. Plus, with all of the other components on the B37, you won’t need to push down into your muscles that hard to relieve tension. You also won’t have to worry about stalling out the motor when using it.

While the Ekrin B37 does have a strong stall force, it is still best for personal use. The Theragun Pro is rated to handle personal and commercial use, but the B37 is best for a single person or a family household.

Amplitude

The amplitude of a massage gun is the amount that the attachment head moves in and out when applying the percussive therapy. It is the amount that the massage gun digs into your muscles. The Ekrin B37 is said to have a 12mm amplitude. 16mm is the highest (currently) on massage guns, so 12mm is appropriate for most midrange models. It’s also plenty effective at targeting sore muscles and relieving tension.

It provides a deeper massage than some of Bob And Brad’s Massage Guns like the X6 Pro that only has a 10.5 mm amplitude.

Handle

While the overall design of the Ekrin B37 is fairly standard, the handle is a little unique.

Instead of being a right angle like other massage guns like the Hypervolt Go 2, or the Bob And Brad C2, it has a 15-degree angle. It’s also fairly long at 5.5”.

This makes it a little easier for me to reach areas of my body like my mid-back. The handle has a 6.1” circumference which might be a little thick for people with smaller hands. I have fairly short fingers and am a short person at only 5’1” tall. While I can grip the B37’s handle fine, it just feels a little thick. I also like to change up my hand placement and sometimes grip the top part of this massage gun, which is even thicker than the handle. A slightly slimmer handle and top might make this massage gun a tad bit easier for more people to use.

Percussion Settings

I really like the range that the percussion speeds have to offer on the B37. Most massage guns tend to have higher percussions per minute of 2000+. The Ekrin B37 covers this range (and then some) while still offering lower speeds.

The five settings include 1400, 1800, 2200, 2600, and 3200 RPMs. This range is the greatest that we’ve seen on massage guns we’ve tested. The lowest range is definitely slow and feels lighter, while the highest setting provides the strongest amount of percussive therapy.

You use the top power button to adjust the percussion speeds as well as turn the B37 on and off. LED lights on top of the power button at the top of the massage gun display which level you’re on.

The lights are small but easy to see.

Attachments

The Ekrin B37 comes with 4 different adjustment head attachments. These attachments vary on the areas of the body you should use them and the level of pressure they provide.

All of these attachments are pretty typical for what most massage guns come with.

Flat Head

The flat head is my favorite. It is firm yet soft enough to use on most areas of the body without feeling like too much. I like that it isn’t so firm that it feels like I’m being slapped at higher percussive speeds. Some flat-head attachments are very stiff and feel like too much, even at lower speeds, but this attachment has just the right amount of padding and firmness.

Bullet Head

The bullet head is pretty standard and best for targeting deep tension and smaller muscles. If you have a knot in your back, this one is your best bet for helping to get it out.

Round Head

The round head reminds me of most round attachments on massage guns. In fact, most massage guns on Amazon come with foam round attachments like this one. My cheap Amazon massage gun that I got years ago before I had the opportunity to try some of the best on the market, has a very similar round attachment.

Most of our reviewers find this attachment to be just fine, while others aren’t a fan of the material. If you use it on bare skin, you’ll notice the attachment will look dirty afterward. It also isn’t as easy to clean because of the porous material versus the other plastic attachments that the B37 comes with.

I think this one and the flat head are best for large muscle groups.

Fork Head

The last attachment is the fork head. It is kind of the like the bullet head, but it has 2 areas for relieving tension versus 1. The fork head forks so you can use it over the spine to target the muscles on either side of the spine without hitting the bones. This one is best for use on specific areas.

Functionality & Performance

What really blew us away about the Ekrin B37 Percussion Massager is how quiet, yet powerful it is. You can easily carry on a conversation while using it.

It has a good motor, excellent stall force, and a great range of percussion speeds.

We recommend the B37 for most athletes and people. It is great for muscle recovery and for use before and after workouts. Bobby Holland Hanton says he even uses it in between some reps if he needs it. We’ve found that the Ekrin B37 has a great range of attachments and percussion settings to appeal to a wide range of people and preferences. Areas like my neck which are usually more tender than my lower back and quads are best for the lower speed ranges, while the higher speed ranges are great when my leg muscles are sore.

Being a midrange massage gun, the B37 is priced at kind of the middle of the pack. Some massage guns are priced at around double, while others are $100 or so cheaper. While we understand that the B37’s price tag might not work for everyone, it is pretty well priced considering its quality and features.

Something to keep in mind is that the B37 doesn’t have any Bluetooth connectivity. Ekrin Athletics doesn’t offer an app for guidance while using their massage guns.

Our team is also impressed with the long battery life that the B37 has. It is said to handle up to 8 hours of use, which for personal use means that this massage gun can last days if not weeks before needing to be recharged. It comes with a charging plug that plugs into the bottom of the massage gun. There are also 4 small LED lights under the power button that show how much juice the battery has. These are right below the other lights that show the percussion speed settings.

As I mentioned, the Ekrin B37 is best for personal use. It also comes with a built-in 10-minute timer. The massage gun will automatically turn off after 10 minutes of continual use. If you want to use it for longer than that, you can just turn it back on. 10 minutes is long enough for most people, though.

I really like that the B37 comes with a hardshell zipper case.

Everything has a spot, including the attachments and charger. This makes the B37 more portable, even though it isn’t Ekrin’s travel-size option, the Ekrin Bantam is. You could of course put the B37 in your gym bag or suitcase on its own, but the case is really nice for storing and keeping all of the components in one place.

Warranty

We are really pleased that Ekrin backs the B37 with an impressive lifetime warranty. Most massage guns come with 1-year warranties in comparison. This definitely helps to instill confidence in the construction and quality.
