Best Treadmills Under $2000, 2024

One of the most challenging questions for us to answer as fitness experts is, “How much does a good treadmill cost?” In most cases, I think runners and walkers should set a reasonable budget and purchase the best treadmill within their budget limit. That doesn’t always mean buying a treadmill that maximizes your budget, but it could.

If your budget limit is $2000, we have a great list of treadmills in that price range. The best treadmill for you as a walker might differ from someone else who is a runner (or vice versa). We’ve chosen treadmills that require a subscription and others that do not, so consider this additional cost when looking at the treadmills we chose.

This price range is an excellent budget when treadmill shopping because there are so many options with varying features and content. Take a tour of the treadmills on our list to find the appropriate cardio machine for your walks and runs below.

What We Like:

  • The 10″ touch screen offers streaming from iFIT with access to thousands of workouts with a subscription.
  • The 1250 has the same deck, cushioning, and features as the 1750 and 2450 Commercial Series Treadmills.
  • The 3.0 CHP motor is quiet, consistent, and best for light to moderate running.
  • The deck folds up, and there are front transport wheels for moving it.

Areas For Improvement:

  • The console shakes a little bit when running at high speeds.

If the popular NordicTrack 1750 or 2450 treadmills are just out of your budget, we promise you aren’t losing quality or features in the 1250. The 1250 comes with the same deck and cushioning that we love from these other two treadmills. The 1250 feels extra comfortable underfoot on our easy and recovery days.

The NordicTrack 1250 also has a touch screen that is 10″ for streaming iFIT workouts with a subscription. There are also onboard workouts if you don’t want to access iFIT. For those interested, iFIT offers thousands of trainer-led workouts filmed indoors and outdoors.

The outdoor classes are filmed worldwide and provide a very interactive training experience, so we highly recommend checking it out. Also, with iFIT, the 1250 will automatically adjust the speed and incline to the workout format. So, if you’re following an instructor running up a mountain, the 1250 will incline the deck to match the terrain.

Regarding training capabilities, the NordicTrack 1250 has a 3.0 CHP motor that we recommend for light to moderate running. The 12 mph max speed, 12% incline, and -3% decline provide a lot of variety to work your anterior and posterior muscles, too.

Plus, the 1250 handles users up to 400 lbs. If space is a factor for your home, the 1250’s deck folds up with lift assistance and slowly lowers to the floor when unlocked. You can move it around when needed, too. Be sure to account for the treadmill’s incline when finding the right space because iFIT automatically adjusts the incline, and you don’t want to hit the ceiling!

In our opinion, the NordicTrack 1250 is the best treadmill in this price range because of its quality, motor capabilities, training options, and forgiving deck cushioning.

The 3.5 HP motor is capable of handling distance running. The deck is also spacious at 22″ wide and 60″ long to work well for most people. It also doesn’t hurt that lifetime warranties from Sole back the frame and motor.

The F80 has a nice amount of tech and included content on the 10″ touchscreen. In addition to onboard workout programs, there are fitness tests, custom settings, and a manual mode to hop on and go. Our favorite onboard workouts are the Sole+ video workouts included with the Sole F80 for free. The Sole+ app includes workouts for strength and other cardio machines, too.

When you’re working out, you can watch movies, TV shows, and videos from 12 preloaded streaming apps, such as Netflix, Hulu, and YouTube. Screen mirroring is also available, and there is a wireless charging pad for your phone. All of this is available without an additional subscription price.

  • The console features onboard workouts and the Sprint 8 HIIT program.

Areas For Improvement:

  • This treadmill is cumbersome and challenging for some to move.

The Horizon 7.8 AT has a fast-adjusting 4.0 HP motor, making it ideal for high-intensity interval training. The console has the workout program Sprint 8, so you’re all set for HIIT training. The console features Quick-Dial control buttons for the speed and incline that are at your fingertips to adjust the treadmill quickly and efficiently so you’ll never miss a second of work or rest.

The Horizon 7.8 AT is a well-built treadmill. The motor is powerful enough to handle a lot of use, and the deck is suitable for all strides at 22″ wide x 60″ long. The cushioning isn’t too soft or too firm. The 3-Zone Variable Response Cushioning provides excellent shock absorption to lessen the impact on your joints. It also handles most people up to 375 lbs.

The 7.8 AT is a big treadmill, but its folding deck makes it great for many homes. Moving is challenging, but there are two front wheels to help you move it when needed. The Horizon 7.8 AT offers nice variable training options with a 12 mph max speed range and a 15% deck incline. The frame and motor have a lifetime warranty to help instill confidence in this quality treadmill.

The Horizon 7.8 AT often gets overlooked due to its construction, but we couldn’t be happier with its performance. It has quickly become a favorite around our studio. Although we recommend the Horizon 7.8 AT for interval training, this one is a great addition to any home with the need and space for a powerful, quick-adjusting treadmill.

What We Like:

  • There are thousands of workouts included with a subscription, and onboard workouts are available without a subscription to iFIT.
  • The 2.75 CHP motor is suitable for walking, jogging, and light running. It offers a 10 mph speed range and a 12% incline.
  • The deck is 20″ wide and 55″ long and folds up when finished.

Areas For Improvement:

  • The deck might not be long enough for users with long stride lengths to run on.

Another NordicTrack model in this price range is the EXP 10i. This treadmill is at the top of the EXP Series, which is NordicTrack’s more affordable lineup of treadmills. The NordicTrack EXP 10i is enabled with iFIT, and it has some great features that pair well with the subscription content.

The 10″ touch screen is better than the EXP 7i for using iFIT. iFIT is one of the best training platforms out there, and we love it because of the vast library of over 17,000 classes and counting. The outdoor classes are filmed in areas on every continent to guide you through remote areas and cities worldwide.

Several classes comprise series and challenges where you can take a group of classes with the same focus, filmed in the same area with the same instructor. These are great for progressing your fitness over a few weeks or months. iFIT has released holiday and race-themed series that we greatly enjoy.

One of my favorite iFIT features is the AutoAdjust Technology, which adjusts the treadmill during the workout to match the instructor’s cues and the terrain of the location where it takes place. You can adjust the treadmill yourself, and the console’s layout on the EXP 10i makes this easy using the numbered buttons on either side of the screen to change speed and incline.

This treadmill has nice training options, such as a 10 mph max speed and a 12% incline range. Paired with a 3.0 HP motor, the training specs make the EXP 10i a good walking, jogging, and light running treadmill.

What We Like:

  • The 3.25 CHP motor is excellent for walking, jogging, and running in light to moderate amounts.
  • The 10″ touch screen includes iFIT workouts with a subscription and onboard workouts for free.
  • The deck is 20″ wide and 60″ long for all running strides and folds up to save room.

Areas For Improvement:

  • This treadmill isn’t best for heavy training.

Although it is a compact treadmill, the ProForm Pro 2000 is large enough for most users to run on. It comes with a 20″ x 60″ deck that we have found sufficient for users of pretty much all running strides. It also has a 3.25 CHP motor to handle running. The motor is quiet except for when the incline adjusts, which doesn’t take very long.

The Pro 2000 is rated for users up to 300 lbs. Regarding its training capabilities, the ProForm Pro 2000 offers a 12% incline and -3% decline for a good variety of grades and a 12 mph max speed. The deck cushioning is also forgiving without being too soft or firm underfoot.

The Pro 2000 includes a 10″ touch screen and the option to stream from iFIT with a subscription. It also features AutoAdjust Technology for automatic adjusting. Kaleigh’s favorite feature is ActivePulse technology, which adjusts the treadmill speed to keep you in a set heart rate zone when paired with a compatible monitor.

We like the Pro 2000’s training options and size. It is compact enough to take up less space in your home while accommodating runners of most sizes. The deck also folds up with lift assistance to give you more room. Even though the ProForm weighs about 262 lbs (in the box) and is a substantial treadmill, its two transportation wheels make rolling it around easier.

What We Like:

  • Compact horizontal and vertical storage
  • 10″ touchscreen display
  • Live and on-demand workouts
  • 12.5 mph max speed and 12 incline levels
  • Bluetooth connectivity

Areas For Improvement:

  • Echelon membership required
  • It may be too heavy for some users to lift upright

I love the way Echelon addresses one of the most challenging problems for treadmill owners: storage. Not everyone has a dedicated home gym to leave their treadmill unfolded. Yet, even folding treadmills can be bulky eyesores. The Echelon Stride-6s folds flat for horizontal or vertical storage using their Waterfall Open-Front Design.

One limitation of the Echelon Stride-6s is its weight. I have trouble lifting the bulky treadmill to its vertical position, which weighs about 156 lbs. Some exercisers may need help getting it to its upright position for storage. There are wheels for rolling the treadmill when it’s upright and when it is horizontal; these are super helpful.

The Stride-6s requires an Echelon membership. It is so tricky to avoid signing up for one, and the features are so limited without one that I do not recommend this treadmill for walkers and runners who won’t subscribe. However, it’s a great option for exercisers who want live and on-demand studio classes.

The classes are guided by Echelon coaches and backed by playlists. Echelon collaborates with artists to create classes centered around their music. There are also entertainment options available on the Stride-6s, so you aren’t limited to the classes if you want more options.

The Echelon Stride-6s is perfect for a walker or runner who wants all the high-end features of a NordicTrack or Peloton Tread but doesn’t have the space for it.

The Xterra TRX5500 Treadmill has a foldable frame that pairs well with four transportation wheels for easier moving. Although the TRX5500 is large enough to support most running strides, it folds up to be compact, storable, and movable when needed. The deck uses an assist to lift it more easily, and when unlocked, it lowers to the floor on its own.

The TRX5500 has a 10.1″ touch screen, onboard workouts, and preloaded streaming apps like Netflix and YouTube. What to Consider when Buying a Treadmill Under $2000

We’ve put together a quick guide to help you find the best treadmill under $2000.

Your Home

When purchasing any treadmill, it is essential to ensure it will work for you and your home. Treadmills are large pieces of equipment requiring a significant amount of space. Not only is floor space important, but proper ceiling height is a factor, too. You ensure you have enough room width and length to use the treadmill safely and ceiling clearance for inclining the deck.

Considering the treadmill’s weight is important, too, if you plan on using it on an upper-level floor. Heavy treadmills might not work on a second story and are best on a ground-floor level.

Many home treadmills also fold up to save you some space when you’re not using them. If you’re using the treadmill in a space like your living room, you might want to check out a folding treadmill to give you more room in your home.

Treadmill Specs

Looking at a treadmill’s specs is a good idea to ensure that the treadmill aligns with how you plan on using it. Most brands provide the motor and deck sizes in the list of specs so you can determine if the motor is powered enough to handle your training and if the deck size is long enough to support your stride.

Treadmills with 3-4 HP motors are best for running, while 2-3 HP motors are best for mostly walking and jogging. We’ve also found that 60″ long decks can support most stride lengths while running and that 55″ are better for walking and jogging, although if you have a shorter stride, you might be able to run on decks of this size, too.

Most treadmills in this price range offer 12 mph max speed ranges and 12-15% incline levels. Some treadmills also decline, too. If you are looking to train at specific speeds or grades, it’s a great idea to check out the training capabilities of the treadmill.

Training Content

Training content may not seem important, but it contributes to the overall experience on the treadmill. Some treadmills under $2000 have touch screens with optional subscription training content, while others have simpler consoles with LCD screens.

Most treadmills include standard workout programs; however, some come with preloaded streaming apps. If you like having entertainment options while using a treadmill, it is important to check out the features the treadmill comes with.

Treadmills with FTMS connectivity pair to many other apps, giving you even more training options. We also recommend considering whether or not a treadmill has a tablet rack. If it has a place to view your phone or tablet, you might be able to use more training and entertainment content than if you rely upon the built-in training content.

Other Features

If you have any other non-negotiable features or wanted features, decide on them before you make your choice. Some you might include are a fan, speakers, Bluetooth, and storage compartments.

We’ve learned to pay attention to the console buttons, adjustment paddles and dials, and automatic adjustment options. It’s annoying to be in the middle of a hard run and struggle to change speed or incline. Our favorite adjustments include NordicTrack’s OneTouch buttons and Horizon’s QuickDial controls.

Frequently Asked Questions

What Is The Best Treadmill Under $2000?

We consider the NordicTrack 1250 the best treadmill under $2000. This treadmill offers nice deck cushioning, a spacious running surface for all strides, a 3.0 CHP motor for running, and a 10″ touch screen with iFIT training content available with a subscription. All of these features and the 1250’s overall quality make it the best treadmill under $2000 for home use.

What Do I Need To Know Before Buying A Treadmill?

It is essential to know the size and weight of the treadmill, as well as the motor and deck size, before buying. Checking out the size can help you determine if the treadmill will fit in your space. You also want to consider the treadmill’s weight, especially if you plan on using it on a 2nd-level floor.

The motor size, speed, incline range, and deck length are essential to ensure the treadmill will handle your stride length and your training goals. It’s also a good idea to consider the weight limit to ensure you don’t exceed it.

Is A Home Treadmill Worth It?

An at-home treadmill is absolutely worth it if you and/or your household plan on using it. Home treadmills typically have motors that are a little quieter than commercial treadmills, making them more suitable for homes than gym treadmills.
